What do I do if I need a book that Brown doesn't own?

Answer

If you are a Brown student, professor, or staff member, you can use our easyBorrow / Worldcat system to request print books from other libraries. You don't need to know what library owns the book, and there is no charge for the service.

The simplest way to do this is to enter the book title into BruKnow, our library catalog. If it doesn't turn up, click on "Expand My Results." If you then see the record, click on it, then use the easyBorrow link to request from another library.

Using BruKnow for books we don't own doesn't always work, so you can also go to the Worldcat Discovery link on the library homepage (in the Library Resources box), conduct a search, and then click on Request This Item. Ebooks generally may not be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan. For more details, please see our Borrowing Information Page.

Note: If you ever have problems with Worldcat and want to borrow immediately, you can always go to illiad.brown.edu and request your book through there.
