Can we use clips of music in a podcast?
Answer
In general, our licenses allow use of music clips only for teaching and research purposes, not for incidental use. The main way you can use excerpts from copyrighted music (without a license) is if you are engaging in critical evaluation of the music. (Also, if that music happens to be background sound in a live-recorded interview, such as in a coffeeshop.) Otherwise, you will need to get licenses. Please note that Brown license agreements do not apply to non-Brown entities.
