Why am I asked for an ID or payment when I try to view an article?

Answer

If you are off-campus, make sure you are accessing the journal / database through the Brown library system, not through the open web.

If you are off-campus and using Google Scholar, you must go to the "hamburger icon" (three horizontal bars), then choose Settings. Under Settings, choose Library Links and add the Brown Library.

If you are on campus or already logged on, this message may occur when you try to view an article that is not included in the library's subscription. In most cases you can find out what years are included in our subscription by viewing the dates for the title in our Journal list or in  BruKnow.
