How do I download / read an ebook?
Answer
You can read the ebook by simply using your web browser.
For downloading, It depends on the provider. Check the interface of the book. For EBSCO and ProQuest Ebook Central books (and possibly others), you will need to create an account first. Don't use your Brown user ID -- just make up another login and password. To read EBSCO books on a Mac, use Preview or Adobe Reader. More information about our ebook collections may be found on our Ebooks Collections Guide.
Most of our ebooks cannot be downloaded to a Kindle or other personal ereader because these types of books cannot be shared. Once they are downloaded the books belong only to the person who downloaded them. For this reason, the Brown Library cannot purchase Kindle books for sharing.
However, ebooks that we have licensed from EBSCO can now be read on Kindle devices. Save your pages to your device as a pdf, then email them to your Kindle email address using your device's email client. For more information, go to Send to Kindle by E-mail.
Note: You can also download the Send to Kindle app to your device to send your eBook pdfs to your Kindle. To learn more about the Send to Kindle apps that are available, please see: Send to Kindle.
